Lifelong Love of Reading

Last month over 40,000 people came to Forsyth Park in downtown Savannah to celebrate literacy. Live Oak Public Libraries and the City of Savannah hosted the 14th annual Savannah Children's Book Festival feauring over a dozen award-winning children's book authors and illustrators, and welcoming the National Ambassador for Young People's Literature, author Kate Di Camillo. You may recognize her work before her name. Her first novel, "Because of Winn Dixie" has been required reading in many 3rd and 4th grade classrooms throughout Georgia for years.

The festival which takes place the second weekend in November, is free to the public and offers many familes the opportunity to meet their favorite authors, and learn what it is like to create memorable characters.

The 2016 Savannah Children's Book Festival date has just been announced. It will be held on Saturday November 19, and is the perfect ending for a memorable learning experience.
